Acts is unique because it links the Gospels with the Epistles by recording the birth and early history of the church, the expression of God’s kingdom for this age. When the disciples asked Jesus if the kingdom was coming at that moment, he told them it was not for them to know, but that they would see a manifestation of the kingdom’s power in the work of the church through the power of the Holy Spirit (1:6-8). The rest of Acts records what happened when the Holy Spirit’s power infused the church. That makes the book critical because it is the blueprint for the church today. It reveals how the church functions when not filled with the Spirit and what happens when the Spirit fills the church so that it explodes with power and kingdom authority. We see what we are supposed to be and do today as the church of the Lord Jesus. Acts is a kingdom book: Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God at the beginning (1:3), and Paul proclaims the kingdom of God at the end (28:30-31). That’s crucial because the whole Bible wraps around this theme of the kingdom agenda, the visible manifestation of the comprehensive rule of God over every area of life. And that rule is to be reflected in and through the church. ▶ Do you know Jesus as your Savior? ▶ Stream Sermons: ▶▶ Free Sermon App: ▶▶ DONATE: ▶ Facebook: ▶ Instagram: ▶ Are you a preacher?
