The Power of the Cross
Have you ever been insulted or ridiculed because of the cross? When people believe that they can earn their way to heaven, they belittle God’s wisdom. When people believe they can save themselves, the thought of God coming in human form, dying on a cross, and rising from the dead to provide forgiveness of sin seems foolish to them.
Paul tells us of this in 1 Corinthians: “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18).
The cross transforms lives. “‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed.’ For ‘you were like sheep going astray,’ but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls” (1 Peter 2:24-25).
Without the cross, there is no forgiveness of sin, no salvation. There can be no relief from guilt, no peace of mind, no eternal life with God in heaven. Thank God today for His precious and amazing gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Prayer: God, thank You for the transforming power of the cross. Thank You for the costly gift of eternal life. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13-14).
