In today’s Footsteps, Aaron Ku, a missionary to students in Oxford, England repeatedly used the phrase, “gave his life” or “gave their lives to Christ.”  What exactly does it mean to “give your life to Christ?”

Concerning salvation, we often hear people say, “I asked Jesus into my heart.”  But, I maintain that “giving your life to Christ” is a more biblical way of summarizing the salvation experience.  It denotes surrendering one’s life to Jesus.  Think about what Jesus told the great crowd that was following Him:

If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple…So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.  (Luke 14: 26 & 33, ESV)
