Prayer Has Power
Ezekiel lived in a time similar to ours. God’s people worked in their own strength and were mostly concerned with their own lives. It was a time when they had religion but no righteousness, form but no substance. It was a time when many shepherds were serving themselves instead of feeding their flocks with the Word of God. Sound familiar?
Read Ezekiel 22:30. That’s the context into which the Lord spoke to Ezekiel and said, “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” Idolatry, unfaithfulness, and indifference to spiritual decay had created a gap between God and His people, and the Lord was looking for someone to pray and to act on their behalf. But most of God’s people were only concerned with their own well-being.
We must not sit idly by while so many are dying apart from Christ. God is calling us to stand in the gap—to pray for our society, for our lost neighbors, and for God’s Kingdom to come in its fullness. He is calling us to show up for those who are in need in our world today. He is sending us out to be witnesses for Him, to go and tell the world what He has done for us. This is our mission.
What might happen if we devoted ourselves to prayer? How might our cities, nation, and world change? I am convinced that if God’s people would understand the power of aligning our wills with God’s in prayer, then we would unite in prayer at every opportunity. We would understand the power of agreement in prayer, and we would ignite a prayer movement that would turn the world upside down.
Are you ready and willing to stand in the gap today in the strength of your Savior—for the furthering of His Kingdom?
Prayer: Lord, I repent of the ways I have neglected to answer Your call to pray for those around me and for the world. Help me to honor You with faithful intercession. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14).
