Gifts of Christmas
Think back on all your past Christmas holidays. Is there one, particular gift that has stood out to you over all these years? Maybe the gift was something the giver spent time creating and personalizing for you. Maybe you have associated many memories with that special gift. But no matter how spectacular, meaningful, expensive, or creative that gift was, it is a mere token compared to the amazing gift of salvation that God has given you.
In Christ, not only do we receive the future promise of eternal life with our Creator, but we can also experience this gift here and now. Our gift comes with both future promises and immediate guarantees. In Romans 5:1-11, Paul describes several earthly blessings we receive as Christians.
Only through salvation can we experience true peace with God (see Romans 5:1). Have you ever known the peace and fulfillment of a restored relationship? We are born into a broken relationship with God. But through Christ, we are able to find that permanent peace and reconciliation with our Creator. “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation” (Colossians 1:21–22).
Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of salvation. Thank You that not only do I have eternal life, but You have also blessed me with earthly blessings as well. Thank You for Your goodness. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:1-2).
