One of many difficulties for evolutionary theory is the onset of menopause in human beings. Why should there be a permanent cessation of menstruation in human females, typically between the ages of 45 and 55? Chimpanzees, gorillas, and other apes, from whom we are supposed to have descended, do not regularly undergo menopause. Yet in human females, it is a universal phenomenon. Even Sarah, the wife of Abraham, thought it was quite silly when she was told she would conceive a son in her nineties. So “she laughed”, the Bible says (Genesis 18:10-12).

Evolutionary biologists cannot understand why we should have evolved a seemingly self-defeating detail of reproductive physiology. There is nothing inevitable about it from the perspective of mammals in general. The more offspring one has, the more chances there should be for evolutionary success. That seems to be the case with other species - why not with humans?

That the human female reproductive system should lose viability so soon also goes against the overwhelming trend that human beings age more slowly, not more rapidly, than other animals. Why should the reproductive system in human females age relatively so much faster? It is not an evolutionary advantage.

The supposed “logic” of evolution gives way to the much more logical conclusion of Creation. We were created by God, Who has His own intentions and special place of loving provision for people. God, in His care for mankind in a fallen world, apparently intends to provide the nurturing and love of mothers and grandmothers to the community of extended families - while also not overwhelming their energy levels taking care of their own small children.

Here is one more reason not to put your faith in evolution. Put your faith in our Creator, Who is not only awesomely creative but Who is awesomely wise and awesomely caring! “For the Lord is good; His mercy (lovingkindness) is everlasting; and His truth (faithfulness) endures to all generations” (Psalm 100:5)!
