Humpback whales are among the largest creatures to ever inhabit our planet. A few of the many wonders of their biology are highlighted in this sequence from ...
The creative potential of both intelligent design and natural selection are considered in the context of a dolphin's sophistacated echolocation system.
Dolphins are equipped with the most efficient sonar system on Earth—natural or man-made. With it, they find food and track the location of allies or enemies, ...
In 1975, hundreds of millions of Monarch butterflies were discovered in Mexico's Transvolcanic Mountain Range. Most of them had traveled more than 1000 ...
The extraordinary process of metamorphosis, and the inability of natural selection to account for its origin, are examined in this clip from METAMORPHOSIS: ...
Throughout history, butterflies have fascinated artists and philosophers, scientists and schoolchildren with their profound mystery and beauty. In Metamorphosis ...

CHAPTER 1: THE CAMBRIAN EXPLOSION
The Cambrian Explosion represents one of the most abrupt changes in the entire fossil record. Below the Cambrian, some relatively simple organisms are known, but above the Cambrian, an “explosion” of complex animals appears for the first time. DARWIN’S DILEMMA begins with computer animation of some of these creatures, then tells the story of the Burgess Shale in Canada where spectacular fossils of Cambrian animals came to light in the early 20th century.
DARWIN’S DILEMMA is based on the book Darwin’s Doubt by Dr Stephen Meyer. Production was completed in 2009. The documentary presents fossil evidence that defies Darwinian evolution and supports Meyer’s argument that the Cambrian fossil record gives strong evidence for intelligent design.
CHAPTER 2: DARWIN’S DILEMMA
Charles Darwin was baffled by the Cambrian Explosion, because it defied his expectation of slow and gradual change. In this chapter, DARWIN’S DILEMMA interviews leading paleontologists about the problems that the sudden appearance of complex animals poses for Darwinian theory. Scientists admit that the problem has not been solved by more fossil discoveries since Darwin’s day. If anything, it has gotten worse.
Richard Sternberg is an evolutionary biologist with interests in the relation between genes and morphological homologies, and the nature of genomic “information.” He holds two Ph.D.'s: one in Biology (Molecular Evolution) from Florida International University and another in Systems Science (Theoretical Biology) from Binghamton University. From 2001-2007, he served as a staff scientist at the National Center for Biotechnology Information, and from 2001-2007 was a Research Associate at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. Dr. Sternberg is presently a research scientist at the Biologic Institute, supported by a research fellowship from the Center for Science and Culture at Discovery Institute. He is also a Research Collaborator at the National Museum of Natural History.
CHAPTER 5: BIOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Dr Stephen Meyer makes the case that the fundamental problem the Cambrian Explosion poses for evolution is the amount of biological information required to build new body plans. Using computer animation, DARWIN’S DILEMMA explains this with analogies that emphasize the information required, then argues that only one source of complex specified information is known that can explain the Cambrian fossils: intelligent design.

Stephen C. Meyer received his PhD in the philosophy of science from the University of Cambridge. A former geophysicist and college professor, he now directs Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture in Seattle. He has authored the New York Times best seller Darwin’s Doubt: The Explosive Origin of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design (HarperOne, 2013), Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design (HarperOne, 2009), which was named a Book of the Year by the Times (of London) Literary Supplement in 2009, and now, Return of the God Hypothesis (Harper One, 2021).
