In this second message on David Guzik's series on the Sermon on the Mount, David looks at what Jesus had to say about the persecution His people would face - and how they could be blessed in the midst of such persecution. NOTE: This is from a preaching series that David Guzik shared with other pastors at Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara. Therefore, this second in the series by David Guzik skips over some some of the Sermon on the Mount text.
On this live question and answer time, David spoke of keeping context in a Bible study, multi-campus churches, how to pray, was Jesus disobedient to His parents in Luke 2:48-52, better sermon presentation, knowing when a teaching is good, and does temptation come from the devil or from the flesh?
Sermon on the Mount Series 1: In this first message in a series on the Sermon on the Mount, David Guzik explains the nature and the importance of this amazing sermon preached by Jesus Christ.
The story of the Jesus Movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s (Tony Alamo, Arthur Blessitt, Linda Meissner, Ted Wise). The story of God’s remarkable work through Calvary Chapel and Chuck Smith (John Higgins, Lonnie Frisbee, House of Miracles, Love Song, impact of Calvary Chapel).
The great work beginning in 1904 in Wales, and its impact and spread around the world. Seth Joshua, Evan Roberts, the remarkable impact and spread of the Welsh Revival.
On this LIVE question and answer session, David Guzik dealt with questions about baptism, why Israel’s first king wasn’t from Judah, Hebrew reference works, was the New Testament first written in Aramaic, Reformed theology, order of the books in the Old Testament, and more.
What revival and spiritual awakening are, six periods of notable revival in modern times, the First Great Awakening, Moravians, Zinzendorf, Wesley, Whitefield, summary of subsequent revivals.
The story of the remarkable expansion of missionary work, especially in the 1800s. The Moravians and missions, missionary societies, William Carey, Christianity and social reform.
The Enlightenment and the philosophical challenges of the modern world, science and scientism, secularism, theological liberalism (Fredrich Schleiermacher, Adolf von Harnack). Three responses to the rise of theological liberalism: fundamentalism, neo-orthodoxy, Evangelicalism.
Psalm 136 is a special psalm, with each one of its 26 verses repeating the sentence, His mercy endures forever. Throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, the phrase has somewhat of a liturgical sense to it, as if the assembled people of Israel said or sung this in response to the direction of the Levites leading singing and worship. We picture a great multitude of the people of God gathered in the temple courts. A priest or Levite would call out a reason to give God thanks, and His people would respond with, “For His mercy endures forever.”
Consider how great the mercy of God is, as it is expressed in the person and work of Jesus Christ throughout this wonderful psalm!
Psalm 100 is a psalm of thanksgiving, and it speaks of an invitation to the whole earth to know and to worship God.
Pastor David Guzik gives the what and why of giving praise and the what and why of giving thanks.
