From the study on the Book of Habakkuk (חֲבַקּוּק), chapter 1:7-11, brother Gideon Levytam draws our attention to God's response to the prophet concerning the Chaldeans, Israel’s enemies, whom the LORD will raise up to bring judgment upon His people. God describes to Habakkuk the actions of the terrible and dreadful Babylonians. They are a law unto themselves and seek to promote their own honour. Their horses are swift like eagles, and they devour everything in their path. The Babylonians who trusted in idols, will come against Israel with violence, taking the Jewish people into captivity in Babylon. They will mock and scoff at Israel’s rulers and laugh at her fortified cities. It is no surprise that Habakkuk found himself in a great dilemma upon hearing God's response to his concerns for Israel. Sometimes, God must judge His wayward people, as we read in His Word: "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" 1 Peter 4:17
