This lesson follows a tragic progression of kings in Israel and Judah, emphasizing that God's judgment falls on leaders who lead others into sin. Jeroboam’s reign ends with the death of his son—who alone had a heart for God—and the prophecy that Jeroboam’s dynasty would be destroyed. In Judah, King Rehoboam’s sinful leadership leads to invasion and loss. His son Abijam continues in rebellion, but his grandson Asa brings a refreshing change: he leads Judah in spiritual reform, seeking God and defeating enemies through faith. Sadly, Asa later compromises by relying on political alliances, prompting rebuke from the prophet Hanani. Meanwhile, Israel suffers from assassinations, short reigns, and continued idolatry under kings like Nadab, Baasha, Zimri, and Omri—culminating in Ahab, who provokes God more than all before him. The key takeaway: what matters most is not fame, power, or legacy, but whether a person walked faithfully with God.
