Digging For the Diamonds of Wisdom

In his sermon on Proverbs 1:20—4:27, Stephen Davey explains Solomon’s urgent call to embrace God’s wisdom before life’s crises arrive. Wisdom is personified as calling loudly to everyone, yet many ignore her until trouble comes—only to discover wisdom is not an emergency button but a lifelong companion. Davey shows that godly wisdom must be sought like hidden treasure, because it protects from evil paths, sexual sin, and foolish choices while guiding believers along righteous ones. Solomon’s famous promise in Proverbs 3:5–6 teaches that trusting the Lord—not personal understanding—leads to God’s guidance, though wisdom offers principles, not guarantees of ease. Davey concludes that wisdom is more valuable than wealth, requires disciplined pursuit, and leads not just to making a living, but to making a life worth living.
