The Benefits of Discovering True Wisdom

In his sermon on Proverbs 1:1–19, Stephen Davey explains that Proverbs teaches believers how to walk wisely with others, building on what Psalms taught about worshiping God. He defines biblical wisdom as the ability to make the right decision, for the right reason, at the right time, and shows that Proverbs trains discernment, discipline, critical thinking, and moral clarity. Davey emphasizes that the foundation of all wisdom is “the fear of the Lord,” meaning reverent submission to God and His Word. Solomon contrasts the wise with fools—those who reject God’s authority and despise instruction. Davey concludes by urging believers to pursue wisdom from God rather than the world, beginning their journey by asking Him for it daily.
