Put Your Own Mask On First

If you’ve ever been on a plane, you’ve heard the flight attendant say it: “In the event of an emergency, oxygen masks will drop from above. Put your own mask on first before helping others.” It sounds a little selfish, doesn’t it? Your instinct is probably to help the person next to you. But there’s wisdom in it. You can’t help someone breathe if you can’t breathe yourself. And sometimes, we forget that spiritually. God has blessed us with His grace, His love, His presence, and so much more. Receiving those gifts isn’t selfish. In fact, when we receive them with a grateful heart, they give us something to share. So thank God for what He’s given you. And then look around. Because the blessings God places in your life may be exactly what someone else needs to breathe a little easier.
