No family, church, or Christian ministry is perfect because every family, church, and Christian ministry is comprised of imperfect people.  On the other hand, even though we are all sinners, as fellow believers in Jesus, we have been saved by the grace of God, and we are instructed to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18, NKJV).  So, as we mature in our faith, unity among Christians is certainly possible.

Unity among believers was extremely important to Jesus.  In His high priestly prayer, just before He was arrested, Jesus prayed to the Father, "Sanctify them by Your truth.  Your word is truth" (John 17:17, NKJV).  And just three chapters earlier, Jesus had promised that His disciples would receive "another Helper ... the Spirit of truth" who would "abide" and "dwell" within them.

So, by the grace of God and the prayers of our Savior, as we are being sanctified and becoming more spiritually mature, as we are learning more of the truth found in God's Word, and as we are being helped by the Holy Spirit who lives within us, believers SHOULD be able to live, work, and worship the Lord together in unity.  And yet, we continue to experience division within the Church.

Well, let me offer one thought which is helping me in this area of Christian unity.  Pastor and author Sinclair Ferguson teaches, "If Christ is not ashamed to indwell them, I will not be slow to embrace them."(1)  That's powerful!

With all of that being said, I now encourage you to listen to today's Footsteps where TWR President Andy Schick positively speaks about the unity that he sees among TWR's global staff.  Are we perfect?  No.  But by God's grace, we are working alongside one another in speaking hope to the world.  And one more thing, please pray that the TWR team would remain "genuinely unified" as we carry out our calling.  Thanks.
