Their Language
Judy Friesen, Vice President of Enagement for Wycliffe-Canada, explains the process of Bible translation in today's Footsteps. As you listen to the program, take note of two terms: "indigenous leaders" and "their language." You see, Wycliffe doesn't work by themselves and from a distance. According to Judy, Wycliffe finds "local Christians in the languages where they are located" and then coaches and mentors these "indigenous leaders" as they take charge of translating God's Word into "their language." It makes perfect sense. Who knows a particular language or dialect better--locals or foreigners? Obviously the local people. So by training these local leaders in Bible translation, not only are they empowered to play a major role in this huge project, but the finished product should be far superior!
