South Africa and Forgiveness
Racial and ethnic discrimination has existed throughout the ages. For instance, the Children of Israel were held in bondage in Egypt, multiple generations of blacks were held in slavery in America, and approximately 6 million Jews were killed by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. Let me add another example of discrimination to the list--Apartheid. From 1948 to 1991, by law, black South Africans experienced institutional segregation and discrimination by their white fellow countrymen. While Apartheid ended over 25 years ago, hatred, mistrust, and bitterness still exist in South Africa. That's why, as TWR's Danie Du Preez points out in today's Footsteps, "forgiveness is a big issue in South Africa." That's just one reason why TWR's discipleship work in South Africa is so important.
