There seems to be a trend, at least with some mission agencies, toward shorter terms of service.  I'm sure that there are some advantages, and I certainly am not against short-term missions.  But, are we underestimating the value of spending a career on the field?  Doug Fry, a career missionary serving in Portugal with ABWE (Association of Baptists for World Evangelism), points out the benefits of long-term service--getting to know people, learning a culture, and mentoring.  I must say, he makes a really strong argument.
