That Is My Corner
Do you remember the Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson? It was a very popular small book that was published in the year 2000. The author based it on 1 Chronicles 4:9-10:
"Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, 'Because I bore him in pain.' And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, 'Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!' So God granted him what he requested." (NKJV)
At the time, I recall many individuals, churches, and ministries praying for the Lord to enlarge their territory. But, after interviewing Operation Mobilization missionary Mickey Walker, I can see a different perspective. Think about the fact that Mickey has been preaching in the open air from the same street corner in Dublin, Ireland for nearly 30 years. As you'll hear on today's Footsteps, Mickey declares, "That's my corner." Instead of praying for God to give him 100 street corners in Dublin, Mickey has been faithfully returning to the same spot day after day, week after week, year after year, decade after decade. And, while his physical territory may not have increased, I'm sure the people of Dublin know where to find this man of God if they have a question about Jesus.
