Machismo In The Dominican Republic
When I first heard the term "machismo," I was instantly reminded of the Village People's song from the 1970s containing the line "I want to be a macho man!" I used to think that macho simply meant strong. Well, after listening to Katia Esteves, president of the board of RTM Dominican Republic, talk about the origins of the male machismo attitude and the problems that it is causing in families, I discovered that I DON'T want to be a macho man. (By the way, I'm sorry if I've put a song in your head that will drive you crazy for the rest of the day.)
