Completely Inadequate
Mari Hernandez Tuten serves as a missionary counselor with Resourcing Christian Education in Quito, Ecuador where she counsels young women who have been rescued out of human trafficking. On today's Footsteps, she says, "Every single time I hear a story, and they are there for counseling, I feel completely inadequate." It's at that point, that Mari asks God for the words to speak.
Do you remember what the LORD promised Moses when he was called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt?
"But Moses pleaded with the LORD, 'O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.'
"Then the LORD asked Moses, 'Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.'” (Exodus 4:10-12, NLT)
If you're struggling to find the right words to say in a particular situation, just remember that if God instructed Moses in what to say to Pharaoh, and if God always gives Mari the words to speak to hurting women, then our loving and wise God will give you the appropriate words when you need them as well. Just ask Him.
