A Flag in the Devil's Backyard
Our friend and TWR broadcast engineer Perry Beabout is now face-to-face with Jesus. One of Perry's last major projects was TWR's Oasis Transmitter for Nigeria. On today's Footsteps, we return to an interview that I conducted with Perry back in 2019 where Perry quotes Garth Kennedy, the station director for Oasis: "You don't plant a flag in the Devil's backyard and don't expect him to notice." So, is Nigeria really "the Devil's backyard?" To say the least, I'm convinced Satan considers Nigeria to be part of his home turf. While the Middle East and Central Asia might receive more publicity, Nigeria is the home of Boko Haram which is responsible for raiding villages, destroying churches, and killing thousands of Christians. Then there are the Fulani herdsmen who are attacking Christians and taking their land. And if those two examples are not enough, West Africa is the birthplace of Voodoo! With this type of evidence, I think it's safe to say that Satan has a stronghold in Nigeria. But, even though the Devil has noticed that TWR is broadcasting the Gospel in his backyard, we must, through prayer and by the mighty strength of our great God, press foward in sharing Jesus with the people of Nigeria.
