The Gabbatha
It's surprising what we miss when we read the Bible. All too often, we skip over names of people and places. For me, one is example is the "Gabbatha." We find it mentioned in John 19:13 (ESV) which says, "So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgement seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic Gabbatha." Honestly, I don't think I ever remember reading or hearing about the Gabbatha until Dr. Doug Bookman of Shepherds Theological Seminary pointed it out in today's Footsteps. And, the good news is that Dr. Bookman will be taking a group of travelers to what he and a respected archaeologist believe is the actual spot where Jesus was sentenced by Pilate. The study trip is called "Expedition Israel," and it's taking place May 28-June 9.
