Much More Alive
Eyewitness testimony is important in legal proceedings as well as in Bible study. What do I mean? In 1 John 1:1 (NKJV), the Apostle John writes, "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled concerning the Word of life..." John begins his letter by saying that he and the other disciples had firsthand knowledge about Jesus. The reader can trust his letter because the author actually saw and touched Jesus.
While I haven't seen Jesus face to face, I have traveled to the land of the Bible and retraced some of his footsteps. I can testify that I've been to the Sea of Galilee, to Bethlehem, Capernaum, Chorazin, and Jerusalem. And, I echo what Dr. Doug Bookman of Shepherd's Theological Seminary says is the result of a study trip to Israel--"The Bible is so much more alive! That's why I encourage you to explore "Expedition Israel," hosted by TWR and Dr. Bookman, May 28 through June 9. I'm a living witness of the fact that a trip to Israel will change the way you read and study your Bible.
