A-1 - Encouraged by What You Read?

My two boys and I really enjoy studying World War II history.  We love touring military museums and watching WWII movies.  I know where we get this interest--from my dad.  During the war, he worked in the post office at Camp Forrest in Tullahoma, TN.  These days, much of the Camp Forrest land has become the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC).  Whenever we make a trip to Tullahoma, we exit I-24 in Middle Tennessee and take a highway that runs through AEDC.  Just before the road takes you into the town of Tullahoma, on the right, there are two monuments relating to Camp Forrest.  One of these markers honors the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions which trained at Camp Forrest for a very special assignment.  It was on D-Day, June 6, 1944, that these Rangers scaled the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc in Normandy, France.  This strategic point, between Utah and Omaha beaches, was their stretch of beach.  And of the 225 Rangers that hit the beach that day, approximately 135 became casualties.  When you get a chance, I encourage you to do some research about these men who took Pointe du Hoc.  It's an inspiring story.  I also hope you'll listen to today's Footsteps as Ron Hutchcraft gives us an all-important assignment--to share Jesus with those who are closest to us.  As Ron puts it..."It is your stretch of beach."
