Where Westerners Cannot Go
Many episodes of Footsteps begin with an announcer proclaiming, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News." That biblical phrase is found in the10th chapter of Romans:
"As Scripture says, 'Anyone who believes in him (Jesus) will never be put to shame.' For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'
"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believe in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'" (Romans 10:11-15, NIV)
But, how do we bring the Gospel to people who are living in parts of the world where outsiders, particularly westerners and Christians, are not welcome? I know from experience that we can use radio. For instance, from outside the borders of countries like North Korea, China, and Cuba, TWR broadcasts the Gospel utilizing high-powered transmitters, and this mass-media approach is quite effective. But there's another way, and on today's episode of Footsteps, Oliver Asher, the president of Advancing Native Missions talks about their strategy of using the "locals" who are already living inside these closed countries to carefully "bring good news." Honestly, it makes good sense!
