Not Alone in Suffering
"We read to know we're not alone." I've never forgotten that line from the movie Shadowlands. The quote is often attributed to C.S. Lewis who is the main character in the film, but those words were actually written by William Nicholson who authored the screenplay. For me, those simple words are doubly powerful when our reading material is the Bible. As we read God's Word, we certainly discover that we are not alone--God is with us. We also are strengthened during difficult trials when we realize that Jesus is described as "A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief" (Isaiah 53:3, NKJV). And, in reading Scripture, we are drawn closer to the Lord and compelled to talk with him in prayer. Ruth Mbennah, TWR's Project Hannah Regional Coordinator for Africa, points out that Project Hannah's prayer ministry helps hurting women "understand that they are not alone in their suffering." So, I think it's accurate to say that these women pray to know they're not alone. Today, spend some time in prayer for the abused, persecuted, and suffering women around the world.
