The Hope that Is in Christ
Let's quickly look at Mark chapter 6 where Jesus feeds the 5000:
"And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, 'This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late. Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread; for they have nothing to eat.'
"But He answered and said to them, 'You give them something to eat.'" (Mark 6:34-37, NKJV)
Shortly thereafter, the disciples gathered five loaves of bread and two fish which Jesus multiplied in order to feed the entire crowd. Now, notice that BEFORE Jesus fed the 5000, He "was moved with compassion for them" so He "began to teach them." Throughout the Gospels, we see Jesus miraculously healing and feeding His followers, but His ministry didn't start and stop with meeting these people's physical needs. Jesus was most concerned about their eternal, spiritual needs.
TWR-Malawi has produced and aired a series of programs called We Are One which ministers to Africans with disabilities. But the overall goal is not simply to raise awareness about the disabled in Malawi. The aim is to point them to the everlasting hope that is found in Christ. On today's Footsteps, TWR's Janet Mtali talks more about the purpose of this program. Please pray for this important outreach.
