Justified by Faith
Protestant reformer Martin Luther maintained, "The most damnable and pernicious heresy that has ever plagued the mind of man was the idea that somehow he could make himself good enough to deserve to live with an all-holy God."(1) And yet, aside from Christianity, all the other major religions of the world teach that man must earn his way to Heaven or the next life. But the Bible is extremely clear about this issue:
"But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:4-9, NKJV)
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through who also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." (Romans 5:1-2, NKJV)
The truth is that we are saved by grace through faith. It's a gift of God rather than our own prideful works. It's that simple.
On today's episode of Footsteps, TWR's Harry Bettig shares Kareem's story. Kareem was living in fear that he was not "doing enough good to outweigh the bad." This Iraqi man was worried that he would never make it to Heaven. Then, Kareem heard the message of grace through a TWR program in his heart language. His life was changed!
Don't miss today's broadcast--especially if you also struggle with trying to be good enough to enter Heaven.
