Demonstrating the Gospel in Moldova
On today's Footsteps, Becky Barnaciuc, an OM (Operation Mobilization) missionary to Moldova advocates that the Church should "demonstrate and explain the Gospel and...put it into practice." OM-Moldova demonstrates the Gospel by caring for orphans and the elderly and by distributing school supplies, food parcels, and firewood to the most vulnerable in Moldova. But, should Christian missionaries be heavily involved in these types of relief efforts, or should they simply preach the Gospel? J.C. Ryle, an Anglican vicar, bishop, and theologian from the 1800s, put it this way: "The Gospel which we possess was not given us only to be admired, talked of, professed, but practiced! It was not meant merely to reside in our intellect, memories, tongues, but to be seen in our lives."(1)
