In this sermon on Revelation 17:1–17, Stephen Davey explains that all of human history can be understood as a conflict between two kingdoms symbolized by two cities: Jerusalem, representing the purposes of God, and Babylon, representing humanity’s rebellion against God. Tracing Babylon’s origins back to Nimrod and the Tower of Babel, Davey shows how false religion, idolatry, and the worship of creation have continually opposed the truth of God throughout history. Revelation reveals that in the Tribulation, a unified global religious system will arise, partnering with the antichrist and influencing the world through deception, wealth, immorality, and persecution of believers. Yet despite Babylon’s apparent power, God remains completely sovereign, orchestrating history toward the final defeat of the city of man and the ultimate triumph of Christ, who will reign forever from Jerusalem.
