The Tale of Two Cities

In this sermon on Revelation 17:1–17, Stephen Davey explains that the story of human history can be understood as a conflict between two cities: Jerusalem, representing the purposes and kingdom of God, and Babylon, representing humanity’s rebellion against God. Tracing Babylon’s origins back to Nimrod and the Tower of Babel, Davey shows how false religion, idolatry, and the worship of creation spread throughout the world and continue to oppose the truth of God. Revelation reveals that during the Tribulation, a powerful one-world religious system will unite the nations under the influence of the antichrist, characterized by deception, immorality, wealth, and persecution of believers. Yet despite Babylon’s apparent power and global influence, God remains completely sovereign, orchestrating history toward the final defeat of the city of man and the ultimate triumph of Jesus Christ and His eternal kingdom.
