The Original Robin Hood

In this stretch of David's story (1 Samuel 21-22), Davey shows a hero at rock bottom—stripped of job, wife, best friend, and mentor—and, worse, losing his grip on the faith that once sent him running at Goliath with only a sling. On the run he lies to the priest at Nob, grabs Goliath's old sword, then acts like a drooling madman to escape Gath, before collapsing in tears deep in the cave of Adullam. The big idea lands there: past victories of faith don't guarantee future ones, and God wants fresh, daily trust, not yesterday's leftovers. But even at the bottom of the pit, as David pours out Psalm 142, God begins lifting him—reuniting him with family and gathering 400 desperate men (his future mighty men) around him—until David can finally say he'll wait "till I know what God will do for me."
