Two Essential Prayers
Certain prayers are essential to the life and growth of the believer in Christ. Why? It is because of the specific needs of the believer's heart, and God's way of meeting those needs. A vision, or true perception of Christ is essential, and also, the power given by the Spirit to believe and lay hold upon Christ for all that is needful to honor and glorify Him.
The Quickening Word
When God speaks it is different from the speech of man. Perhaps the words are the same in some instances, but there is power and authority in the words of God, as opposed to those of man. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation, and His words are living, sharp, and powerful, able to speak life into the dead. The word of God gives life, eternal life, to the one who will receive it.
The Meeting In The Morning
Why is the morning hour so important in seeking God? It is generally that time when the soul is most quiet, and receptive to the impressions given by the Spirit of God to the heart. Those impressions become convictions as one pours over the Scriptures, the Spirit of God taking the blessed truths and making them come alive. It is then that one's attention is quietly fixed on the Lord Jesus, waiting upon Him to lead, guide, and reveal His blessed Person in communion with Him.
The Imperative Perpetual Vision
A vision of God is that perception of God in truth, according to the Scriptures. From a human standpoint, it is never complete, for man cannot see God and live, and yet, God gives a knowledge of Himself in the Scriptures by the Spirit. He opens up the truths of Himself as revealed in Christ, that true faith can be given and exercised upon a solid, eternal foundation. A true knowledge of who God is, is essential to true faith.
God's Now The Acceptable Time
What is the "acceptable time" in God's sight but that moment when He moves upon the heart, stirring up the heart to seek Him, or thirsting after Him. It is that moment when He speaks to the heart, seeking a favorable response of faith to His invitation, admonition, or calling. It is a moment, which may be repeated, when He comes alongside the sinner, and awakens him to the reality of eternity, and the only answer for his eternal need to be met, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Impossible Possible Calling Of God
How is the calling of God of an individual at the same time impossible and yet possible? When we are born into this world, we are born in sin. We are dead spiritually, without God and without hope in the world. Only by the grace, mercy, love, and literal intervention of God are we brought to a knowledge of Him. His calling is impossible for man to know without Him revealing it. However, it is possible to not only know, but to fulfill, by His grace because of His enablement.
The God Of The Psalms
Who is the God of the Psalms but The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? And how shall we know Him, discover the riches of His nature and Person? Can a sinner such as we trust Him to bring us there, to a knowledge of Him, born out of a communion with Him? God in Christ has provided perfectly that we should know the God of the Psalms, even giving to us in Christ the Spirit of God to take the great truths of Him revealed in these songs and hymns, making them live by bringing us into contact with Himself. God speaks through His word in order to save the soul, but also, to lead it into fellowship with the Savior.
The God Of New Beginnings
What is a true new beginning from God's standpoint? It is certainly not just a change in one's life, or circumstances. It goes farther than that, because the new beginning has its own beginning in God, in Christ, by the Spirit. It is a point, and an event, whereby the past is dealt with, with all of its sin, failure, and possible suffering. It is also a point at which the believer is given grace to believe God for a new and fresh quickening by His Spirit, so that the heart and soul are revived, and the freshness of a new experience of God's presence and power are known.
Put On The Lord Jesus Christ
It is one thing to know the truth of oneness with Christ, and Christ as our Life. It is quite another to partake of Him by faith, abiding in Him, receiving from Him all that pertains to life and godliness. To know Christ is not to just know about Him, but to know the reality of His power, His working in and through us. As we are to abide in Him, He will abide in us, to reveal His glory to the world.
Patterns Of Promises
Scripture tells the believer that Christ is his Life, His eternal Life. The believer belongs to Christ, and Christ belongs to him. The call of God is to abide in Christ, to live by faith in Him, deriving all from Him. How is this to be done? The position of faith is taken according to the truth of God in Christ, and His finished work. However, God's provision of His promises gives to the believer the means and method whereby he can, by the grace of God, partake of Christ by the Spirit. It is all by faith, faith in the faithfulness of God who has promised.
