After David’s sin with Bathsheba, God sends the prophet Nathan to confront him. Nathan uses a parable to reveal David’s wrongdoing, and David immediately repents. While God forgives David, there are still consequences: violence will arise in David’s household, and the child born to Bathsheba will die.
