Your words can positively or negatively impact your son or daughter. But, if your kid’s love language includes words of affirmation, you could be playing with fire—especially if you’re saying things impulsively or just want to make them feel good. Dr. Gary Chapman, in his book "The 5 Love Languages of Children", says you need to make sure you’re not just saying things to make them feel good. He says they have to be words from the heart—saying, “I love you” every day is important, but saying, “Great throw!” when your child’s throw clearly wasn’t? Well, that will only sound insincere. Praise them when it’s praiseworthy. Chapman has two pages of helpful hints to assist you in affirming your kids.
Words may be more than words to your son or daughter.
