Have you noticed there seems to be a lot more kids who are rude and obnoxious? I have a theory. They’re not being taught how to be respectful at home. Why? I’m sure there are a lot of reasons. But, one of the reasons may be because there’s been a humanistic effort out there to encourage parents to treat kids like adults—not kids. I’ve even seen a parent ask a six-year-old permission to take a breakable piece of merchandise from their son’s hands. What? Mom and Dad, wake up, treat your kids like kids. They need you to. They also need you to be frank and firm about what you expect of them. As you do, remind them temper tantrums aren’t respectful and are NOT acceptable.
