Instead of hoarding wealth and possessions, Jesus tells his followers to seek God’s basileia, which challenges all imposter kingdoms.
What Is Gehenna?
Gehenna comes from the Hebrew phrase “gey’-hinnom,” meaning “valley of wailing.” It refers to a valley on the southwest side of Jerusalem where some of Israel’s ancient kings sacrificed children to other gods.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells his followers not to worry and instead pay attention to the created world. God has abundantly provided for the birds and the flowers, and he will do the same for us.
Why does Jesus use the word “mammon?”
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus uses “mammon” to describe wealth as something that lures us into a sense of false security. ????
